Truth matters. Truth is significant. Truth is objective. Truth is absolute. Truth matters, but it matters most because Jesus Christ proclaims that He Himself is the truth. If He is the truth, then what He says is the truth.
The Bible contains many things that Jesus said and he often began his teaching with "Truly, truly I say to you." In John 3:3 He said, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God."
Or in John 5:24, Jesus said, "Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.”
Truth is Real
We may not always want to agree that truth is real, but we live with it every day. It's true that if we don't feed our bodies with nutritious foods, there will be detrimental effects. It's true that if we get a ticket for exceeding the speed limit there will be a fine to pay. It's true that when it rains stuff that is outside gets wet. It's true that...
Anyway, you get the point; our lives are brimming with truth and generally we live accordingly because we don't want to suffer consequences.
Truth Just Is
Truth doesn't depend on what we believe; truth exists by itself. Like the scientific law of gravity, it just is, regardless of anyone's beliefs or opinions. Gravity exists and material, physical objects like rocks or feathers each respond to gravity in a consistent way.
Human beings also respond to gravity , no matter what we believe about it. A majority of us agree that we are subject to the effects of gravity and live our lives accordinglingy. Very few deny the law of gravity or disbelieve in it because the consequences of doing so are obvious.
Truth Doesn't Change
Scientists have characterized gravity as a "law". The whole universe exists and operates according to many scientific laws. Experience tells us that nature always "obeys" these laws which on the whole, results in a peaceful world.
But even seemingly chaotic and out of control hurricanes and earthquakes are the result of natural processes occuring according to natural laws. God created these laws and finely tuned everything that exists to make our lives possible.
Truth Determines Our Destiny
God also created spiritual laws, He says, "Whatever a man sows, this he will also reap." (Galatians 6:7). I think most of us can agree with this since we have usually received the results of our actions. But there are some laws that may be easier to deny.
God says, "The wages of sin is death." (Romans 6:23). This means that the "wage" you earn for your sin is that you die. It's easy to say that this isn't true because people sin all of the time and they don't die. That's what happened with Adam and Eve. God told Eve if she ate the fruit she would die, but she didn't...
At least that's what it seemed like, but God meant spiritual death. Genesis chapter 3 tells how Eve commited the first sin, followed by Adam who also ate the fruit. After they disobeyed God like this they died spiritually, became separated from God and He cast them out of the Garden of Eden.
The Truth Is
We're sinners too, because we were born from sinners. If Eve had believed the truth God told her, sin wouldn't exist. But sin does exist and we are all in need of a savior. We can't get rid of our own sin, but Jesus Christ can take it away and give us his perfect righteousness in place of it.
Jesus died on the cross, suffered eternal punishment in our place and rose from the grave, now alive, reigning in heaven. He offers eternal life to all who will repent of their sins, admit that they have sinned against God, and ask for forgiveness.
Truth Matters
Our eternal destiny depends on it. I pray you will believe. Your only chance is while you are alive in this life. The choice is yours...
