Of course, everybody wants to go to Heaven. But why? God is there and if we go to Heaven, we will be with Him forever. Some people don't want that. They only choose Heaven to avoid Hell. But it doesn't work like that. You can't have Heaven without God, because he's there.
But God is not in Hell. If we don't want God, Hell is the place to go after we die because God is not there. I can't imagine anyone choosing Hell to avoid God, but I suppose many people do.
What if we don't choose Heaven or Hell? It's the same as choosing Hell. It's like the default, if we don't choose God, He will let us have our own way and we will end up in Hell. I mean, either you want to be with God forever, or you don't. You can have it either way.
What if you don't believe that Heaven and Hell exist? Well, it's the same as anything else; disbelieving in it doesn't make it not true.
But Heaven and Hell are real because the Bible describes them as a real places. In the Bible, the word ‘heaven’ or ‘heavens’ occurs almost six-hundred and fifty times, so it has a lot to say on the subject. Generally though, I think the majority of people couldn’t accurately describe what the Bible says about Heaven.
So what is Heaven? From my perspective as one who has studied the Bible and learned a lot about Heaven, it will be everything that we have always hoped and wished for in this life. We all have a desire to be happy, content, at peace, and productive. We want satisfying relationships with people we know and love and to hopefully and enthusiasically look forward to the future. And most importantly, Heaven is the place where...
We will fulfill the reason for which we were created, to glorify God by enjoying Him forever. This is the chief end of man, to find all of our satisfacrion and happiness in God. As we have all experienced, everything else we have ever tried in our lives to be happy and truly satisfied has fallen short and ultimately left us disappointed.
Heaven will be that perfect world we have always wanted. Consider this passage from the bible: “...the heavens will be destroyed by burning, and the elements will melt with intense heat! But according to His promise we are looking for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells.” [2 Peter 3:12-13]
God is going burn up this old, corrupted, decaying earth and replace it with a brand new, perfect earth that will never decay or get old. The world will finally be perfect. I think that we have all longed for that. But presently, Heaven is not yet this new, perfect world, but an intermediate, temporary Heaven.
Who goes to Heaven? Everyone who is there has been born-again. In John 3:3 Jesus says, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God." Only those who are perfect can go to Heaven, but as we know, none of us are. We don’t qualify, we need help. Jesus Christ is that help.
“When you were dead in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions, having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us, which was hostile to us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.” [Colossians 2:13-14]
Jesus cancelled out our debt by paying it himself. He died a horrible death on a Roman cross and was dead three days and then was resurrected. He is now in Heaven, ruling and reigning this universe and can take away our sin and replace it with his righteousness. He then considers us perfect, blameless and acceptable to Him.
How to go to Heaven This is the simple part. All you have to do is admit to God that you are a sinner in need of a Savior and that you are unacceptable to be received into Heaven and that there is nothing you can do to help yourself. You must repent and cry out for God's mercy and ask Jesus to forgive your sin ,then you must love Him, obey Him and want to be with Him forever.
If you reject this truth, there is only one other option...and who in their right mind wants to press that button.
